Tom Phillips AM
Chairman
Mr Phillips retired as CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd in October 2005, following a distinguished career of 40 years in the Australian automotive Industry, which included roles with General Motors and Toyota.
His ongoing business interests include directorships with a number of South Australian companies. In December 2002, he was named South Australia's Businessman of the Year.
Mr Phillips was appointed by the South Australian Government as Chairman of the South Australian Training and Skills Commission (retired August 2008) and Chairman of the SafeWork SA Advisory Committee (ongoing), commencing these roles in January 2006.
Anthony Francis
Managing Director
Anthony was the founding Director and Managing Director of TCG Pty Ltd, a market based specialist technology Commercialisation Company and recently oversaw its acquisition. He has been directly involved in many spin off companies, numerous "extended" licenses and forming joint ventures and industry partnerships. Anthony has led commercial relationships with Smith Klein Beecham, Aventis, Bayer, Microsoft, Alcoa and BHP (amongst others) regarding a wide variety of successful projects including: a MS Diagnostic, an Anti flea vaccine, a Water Diagnostic and a Root Disease Testing Service. Anthony has managed various private sector investment companies and intellectual property portfolios through partner responsibilities and has raised over $20 million in public sector and private finance.
David Day
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Flinders University
Prior to his appointment at Flinders University, Professor Day was the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Executive Dean of the Faculties of Science, Agriculture and Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney.
A graduate of Adelaide Teachers College and the University of Adelaide, Professor Day subsequently held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Illinois and UCLA that launched his academic and research career. He was a research scientist at the French Centre D’Etudes Nucleaires in Grenoble prior to taking up an appointment at the Australian National University where he became Head of the School of Biochemistry and molecular Biology. He subsequently held the Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Western Australia. He has served on the Australian Research Council and on the Executive of the Plant Science CRC at ANU.
A specialist in plant biochemistry and molecular biology, Professor Day is recognised for leading high-level research groups in the study of plant energy metabolism, oxidative stress, ion transport and symbiotic nitrogen fixation. He was a founder of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology, where he is still a Chief Investigator. Professor Day has more than 200 published works and is an Institute for Scientific Information highly cited researcher.
Geoffrey Pitt B.SC., Grad.Dip.Bus.Admin, FAICD., FAIM - DONE
Geoffrey Pitt is the Principal of Pegram Services Pty Ltd, providing Strategic business advisory services and coaching for senior executives through Global Coaching Partnership.
He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Flinders Partners and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. In addition he is Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Private Companies covering the Financial Services Industry, Property Industry, Health Industry, Retail and Wholesale Distribution Industries.
Previous listed company experience includes Non-Executive Chairman/Director of Strathfield Group Limited. During his executive career he held many Board Directorships on both Government and Non- Government Boards.
In his executive career Geoffrey held significant Senior Executive and Chief Executive positions in a diverse range of industries including Retail, Manufacturing, Gambling and Business Management Consulting.
Daniel Flaherty
Daniel Flaherty is currently the Director Financial Services at Flinders University and has been with the University since 1999.
From 1993 to 1999 he worked in a senior finance role with the University of South Australia. Prior to this Daniel had extensive experience in the Commonwealth Public Sector where he worked in a range of departments in the facilities, human resources, finance and administration fields. This experience included working in a Commonwealth business entity as it moved from being a mainstream department through to becoming a commercialised business entity.
During his time with the Commonwealth, Daniel was a successful applicant for the 12 month National Personnel Management Scheme that involved a mixture of formal coursework and work placements in a number of different organisations.
Daniel earned his economics degree from Adelaide University and is a CPA. In 2000 Daniel received the President’s Award from CPA Australia.
