The Professor is coming to Adelaide!

Prof Thomas Baaken (PhD) is coming to Adelaide in early November, and will be gracing the researchers of Flinders University with his presence as a facilitator at the final Research to Outcome workshop for 2008.

The Professor has held a position as Tenure Professor in Marketing at the Münster University of Applied Sciences since 1991. His area of research interest lies in the areas of Industrial Marketing (Business-to-Business), Technology Marketing and Software Marketing. Particularly, he is quite the expert in Science-to-Business Marketing.

From 1998-2003, Thomas held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and TechTransfer at the Muenster University of Applied Sciences. He was responsible for Research Strategies and Programs, industrial liaison, entrepreneurial activities, links to the European Community, technology transfer, and the marketing of the university research as well as relationships and networks.

Since 2002 he has run a government funded, German-based “Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre.” which is based in Germany. In 2007, the Centre and the University received a best practice award for its unique University-Industry Interaction approach.

During his 14 month stay in Adelaide in 2003-2004, Thomas also started a series of major conferences on “Science-to-Business Marketing and Successful Research Commercialisation” through The University of Adelaide. Shortly after in 2005, he was appointed as Leader of the European Union working group “University Interaction with Industry,” which recently published the Handbook “Responsible Partnering – A guide to better practices for collaborative research and knowledge transfer between science and industry.”

As a consultant, he has been involved in strategic projects of international consulting companies or in consulting on strategic level for renowned companies, as well as for SMEs and Start Ups. Suffice to say, Professor Baaken has much to offer the researchers of Flinders University in relation to working with the commercial world. Flinders Partners is very excited to have him on board, and urge any researchers interested in the commercialisation process to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

The final Research to Outcomes workshop for 2008 is being held on Thursday November 13.
