Write Right for Business Professionals - Training in Samoa

Regina Sliuzas from Flinders University Student Learning Centre will be in Samoa at the end of April, training local staff in English business writing. She will be staying in the capital of Apia, training a small group as to how to be clear and effective through written communication.

The in-country training programme is an initiative by the Government of Samoa and co-funded by NZAID and AusAID with in-kind support by the Government of Samoa. The training is being conducted on behalf of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce. One of the aims of the programme is to bolster private sector growth through the improved productivity of business individuals in this sector. By developing their written communication skills in basic business report writing, proposals and internal memos, it is hoped the individuals will be able to achieve more and as a result, the organisations they contribute to will prosper more.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the needs / concerns of their various reading audience and demonstrate recognition in writing;
  • Understand the impact of writing style, tone and document layout on readers and communication effectiveness;
  • Write clear messages in the appropriate tone for business correspondence, whether with customers, government departments or suppliers, in print copy or by email;
  • Choose an appropriate format and write concise basic management reports, management proposals and internal memos that clearly addresses the purpose of the document; and
  • Edit example business documents to improve its clarity and effectiveness and apply a self assessment tool(s) to improve their own business writing.
  • If you have any questions regarding the fund, please contact Julie Gardner by email, or on 8201 7658.
