Overview

The first phase represents the initial step in a planned strategic programme of work to complete the roll-out of a fully integrated and in-the-field enabled solution. The Phase 1 scope comprises the core enabling components of this logical view which encompasses: Task Management (including Job Creation), Workflow (including Triage and Prioritisation), and Exhibit Tracking.

These core components are central to any FIMS architecture as they form the backbone environment of a FIMS solution. The other business processes and functional modules that will comprise Phase 2 of FIMS such as remote data capture, workforce management, enhanced management information, exhibit management and forensic intelligence capabilities will build upon and utilise these central FIMS services.

Although Phase 1 is defined by these 3 main logical components, it will also need to lay the foundations for the necessary supporting infrastructure required by the complete FIMS solution such as the security and integration environments as well as the establishment of a repository to manage the hierarchical linkages between all the FIMS case elements and the related entities.

Phase 1 will replace the current FSG work management system (FSIMS) implementation with optimised and enhanced functionality to support internal NSWPF fingerprint and other forensic discipline work.
One aspect of FSG case work where a tangible benefit can be delivered to FSG field services staff as part of the Phase 1 scope is the provision of capability to allow the more efficient and consistent labelling of exhibits in the field.
The Phase 1 implementation will also enable the delivery of basic forensic information management in the form of standard reports and statistics relating to the core job, exhibit and workflow components.
